Decorative details that make Hotel Son Jaumell so unique
Majorcan craftsmanship & vaulted ceilings from the original horse stables are unique touches in the suites

It is clear, that something is authentic when it appears in its purest form. This is the case with Hotel Rural Son Jaumell in Capdepera, a hotel that has retained a personality reflective of the typical old rural mansion of Majorca “possessió” that is was more than three centuries ago. During its renovation, the owners wanted to preserve some of its original elements such as the vaulted ceilings which shaped the old horse stables. This authenticity is also represented in the use of palm leaves (llata), glass or wood indigenous to the island. Without a doubt, Hotel Son Jaumell is a spectacular place where you will experience tranquillity and the best of Majorcan traditions and culture on your holidays to Majorca.

Hotel Son Jaumell pays homage to Majorcan culture and craftsmanship

The hotel has done its best to respect the long and impressive history of the Majorcan ranch it was in the beginning. One of the four deluxe junior suites and one of the deluxe grand suites at the hotel have preserved the vaulted ceilings that were part of the old horse stables. They have done a fabulous job of incorporating the old architecture and paying homage to the incredible history of this mansion from over three centuries ago. Also evident throughout the hotel, is the dedication to traditional craftsmanship from the island. The hotel maintains a high level of respect for the traditional trade and craftsmanship of Majorca which is apparent in every aspect of its style and décor:
- Blown glass from Majorca is used in vases, lamps, and glassware
- Braided palm leaves are used in the making of decorative baskets for the bathrooms, lamps, rugs and even chairs. The famous Palm leaf handicrafts of Capdepera and Artá highlight many of the special spaces in the hotel, displaying Majorcan traditions and the natural beauty of the island.
- Indigenous wood from the native trees of Majorca are transformed into stools, shelved and towel rails in the bathrooms.

Majorcan style in the suites of Hotel Son Jaumell

Marga Rotger and Isabel Santandreu collaborated in the renovation and decoration of Hotel Son Jaumell. On her website, Rotger states: “Our projects breathe harmony, balance, and quality, using the essence of natural materials and light while combining different styles.” Hotel Son Jaumell is a perfect display of tranquillity and peacefulness throughout. “Guests really like this type of decorative detail and above all, appreciate its authenticity,” notes Susanne Turowski, the Director of Hotel Son Jaumell.

Guests who stay at Son Jaumell on their holidays to Majorca, are also impressed by the mosaic above the bed of one of the Deluxe Grand Suites which was created from fragments of a centuries-old urn.

In addition to a well-balanced style and devotion to Majorcan traditions, Hotel Son Jaumell also incorporates art as an import part of its décor. During your stay at the hotel, you will be exposed to original paintings from artists such as Gustavo o Bennàssar. Gustavo´s coloristic creations are a sharp contrast to the simplistic style of the hotel, and exude colour, life, and joy. The country landscapes, seascapes, and traditional scenes in Bennàssar’s art display a more personal style and add a unique touch to the décor of the hotel.
