Christmas markets in Mallorca
December has arrived, and, with it, the festive season – a time of year when every town and city is decorated all ready for Christmas. The island of Mallorca is no exception, where you’ll find plenty of Christmas markets offering you local crafts, gastronomy, wine, and all kinds of activities for all the family to enjoy at this festive time of the year.
If you’re thinking of spending Christmas in Mallorca, then you shouldn’t miss the popular markets that can be found near the Hotel Predi Son Jaumell. Among the Christmas lights and the winter weather, you’ll find several different Christmas markets in Palma, but also in the different surrounding villages. Here are the best markets in Mallorca and when you can visit them.
Markets in the old town
Throughout the most important streets and squares in Palma de Mallorca, there’s an impressive Christmas market that began on the 29th of November and which goes right through to the 7th January 2020, the day after the Kings’ celebration. As is their yearly custom, the stands are spread throughout the Plaza Mayor, Las Ramblas, Calle Roma, Plaza Puerta Pintada and Plaza de España, making it one of Mallorca's must-see places in December.
Among the stalls in this Christmas market in Mallorca, you’ll find decorations, gifts, craft products, festive food and typical drinks, in addition to other attractions that you’ll be able to enjoy with the whole family. Some of the main attractions are the Nativity scenes (belenes) in the city’s most important squares, with the one at Plaça Cort, in front of the Town Hall, being especially impressive. From 10 a.m. throughout the month of December and the first week of January you’ll be able to fill yourself with the Christmas spirit by visiting its stalls.
Pueblo Español in Palma
This Christmas market attracts more and more people each year, and has become an ideal place to get original gifts, traditional food and to enjoy different festive activities. This Christmas market lasts for 10 days, from the 5th to the 15th of December, and is located in the area of Son Dureta which also offers free parking. In addition to visiting lots of stands, in Pueblo Español you´ll be able to see replicas of typical Spanish architecture, giving you the feeling that you’ve traveled all over the country without even leaving Palma de Mallorca. This event can be visited from 12 pm to 11 pm and has an entrance fee of €5, although children under 12 get in free
Castell Miquel in Alaró
In the municipality of Alaró, on the weekend of the 14th to the 15th of December, you’ll be able to visit a Christmas market that offers many different products typical to the island, and all with a very festive atmosphere. This year it will be held in Castell Miquel, a wine estate that you can visit from 12 pm to 8 pm.
Just 9 kilometers from Palma de Mallorca, Puerto Portals hosts a Christmas Market every year, from the 18th of December through to the 6th of January. There you’ll be able to enjoy a special festive climate, in addition to tasting different delicacies from Mallorca and around the world. On its wooden stands, you’ll find original gifts, handicrafts, Christmas decorations, as well as local and international dishes to help you discover the island’s culinary wealth. Every day from 12 noon onwards you’ll be able to enjoy the stalls and also have fun skating on the ice rink.
In the town of Santa Ponça, you’ll find a Christmas market in Mallorca that stands out for its family atmosphere and its many activities for children. It’s held in the Son Bugadelles industrial estate and offers a bakery, mulled wine stalls, a stage with live music, a Christmas market, pony rides, and a carousel. Here you’ll be able to experience a fusion of German and Spanish culture that’s so typical of the island in a Christmas market which started on the 25th of November and which will run till the 17th December, from 5-10 pm during the week and from 10 am to 10 pm on weekends and holidays.
Fira de Nadal in the Majorcan villages
