FIVE ESSENTIAL THINGS TO DO IN MALLORCA IN AUGUST

05-08-2022

Spending your holidays in Mallorca is always a great option. The island is the perfect size to relax without overcrowding, and it offers a wealth of diverse landscapes and different types of towns and cities. This makes it easy to organise activities and trips to suit all tastes. It doesn't matter if you're thinking of travelling to Mallorca alone, as a couple, with friends, or with the family - there's something for everyone! Here we'll explain five essential things to do on your holiday in Mallorca.

WALKING THROUGH HISTORICAL PALMA

casco historico de palma

A visit to Palma, the capital of Mallorca, is a must. The historic centre of the city is truly magnificent, with impressive buildings such as the Cathedral standing out. Built between the 13th and 16th centuries, the façade of this imposing building overlooks the city's skyline from the sea.

Not far from the cathedral - a short walk along the seafront - you can also visit the fish market and the Almudaina Palace. A little further away from the historic centre, you'll find Bellver Castle and the Joan Miró Foundation, where you can see a significant part of the work of the internationally renowned artist who was born in Mallorca.

You shouldn't leave Palma without taking a stroll around the local shops in the historical part of the city center. Take a break and have a refreshing drink on a terrace, or enjoy an ice cream with an ensaimada, a typical Mallorcan pastry.

VISIT THE FORMENTOR LIGHTHOUSE AND THE MOST IDYLLIC BEACH IN MALLORCA

faro formentor

The panoramic views on the climb to the Faro de Formentor lighthouse will take your breath away. The contrast of the green of the pine trees, the beautiful shades of blue of the sea, and the grey tones of the cliffs is simply stunning.

Built 188 metres above sea level, the lighthouse's 22-metre-high white tower overlooks Cape Formentor, one of the most magical places in Mallorca. If you decide to venture up to the Faro Formentor lighthouse, we recommend that you also stop for a swim on the beach of the same name. It's one of the most idyllic beaches in the whole of Mallorca.

On the way back, we highly recommend that you stop off in the town of Pollença and enjoy the panoramic views of the town after climbing the 365 steps of the emblematic Es Calvari steps. On the way down, we recommend that you stop for refreshments in the Plaza Major square. Here you'll find the beautiful Mare de Déu dels Àngels Parish Church, which every 2nd August witnesses the traditional re-enactment of the battle between the Moors and Christians, one of the most iconic festivals in Mallorca.

VISITING SOLLER BY TRAIN

tren de soller

Our third suggestion for things to do in Mallorca during the month of August is to visit the beautiful village of Soller. It's located in the north of the island, in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, and the best way to reach the village is to take the special train from Palma's Plaza de España. The journey to the village is simply amazing. Once in Soller, you can take a stroll through the streets of the old town, and enjoy the charming local shops and the bars and restaurants. From Soller, you can take the tram to the local port, one of the most charming ports on the island.

SUNBATHING ON PLAYA DE MUROplaya de muro

August is a very hot month. For this reason, Mallorca and its beaches are a good refreshing place to spend your days. If you're looking for an idyllic beach that is ideal for sunbathing and swimming in crystal-clear waters, then Playa de Muro is a great option. Its crystal clear turquoise waters are ideal for a relaxing swim and its fine white sand is the perfect setting for sunbathing.

VISITING CAPDEPERA CASTLE

castillo de capdepera

Located in the northeast of Mallorca, very close to Predi Son Jaumell Hotel Rural, Capdepera Castle is one of the most beautiful spots in Mallorca. It was built during the 14th century at the request of King Jaume II, to enable the people of the area to settle down and defend themselves from frequent pirate attacks. This fortified complex is worthy of a fairytale. Its panoramic views over the Mediterranean are simply marvellous. We highly recommend it if you're spending your holidays in Mallorca.
