The Gardens of Sa Torre Cega

The Gardens of Sa Torre Cega stand out not only for their scenic beauty, but also for their rich history and cultural significance. Perched on a hilltop in Capdepera, they offer spectacular views of the Mallorcan coast, forging a link between land and sea that captures the essence of the island. Designed in the 1960s by British landscape architect Russell Page, the gardens were transformed into a Mediterranean oasis blending classical garden elements with a modern sensibility. Throughout the garden, you’ll find terraces, fountains, and winding paths shaded by olive, pine, and cypress trees, alongside aromatic plants like rosemary and lavender — all staples of the Mediterranean landscape. These native species are complemented by exotic plants introduced by Page, creating a vibrant, year-round display of colour and life.

Sa Torre Cega was originally a coastal watchtower built to guard against pirate attacks.

One of the highlights of the gardens is its collection of contemporary sculptures, many acquired by the March family, renowned patrons of the arts. Strategically placed among the greenery, these artworks create a powerful dialogue between nature and contemporary art. Works by internationally recognised artists make Sa Torre Cega a truly unique space where creativity and landscape coexist in perfect harmony. The residence that gives the gardens their name, Sa Torre Cega, began life as a coastal defence tower. Over the centuries, it has been adapted and now showcases Mallorcan architecture with touches of modernism. Today, it remains private property under the Bartolomé March Foundation, though parts of the gardens are open to the public — allowing visitors to experience this exceptional setting. In addition to being a popular tourist attraction, the gardens host cultural events such as concerts and exhibitions, contributing to the island’s vibrant cultural life. The blend of nature, history, and contemporary art makes the Gardens of Sa Torre Cega a landmark destination in Mallorca, where time slows down and beauty is revealed in every corner.
