It's located in an area with a wealth of archaeological sites, and has many places of great interest to heritage lovers, such as its medieval castle, the parish church of Sant Bartomeu, the lighthouse, the governor's house, the imposing properties of the March family... Although the site has been occupied since prehistoric times, its castle was built under King Jaume II in 1300. It was a fortified village with humble dwellings, and its period of highest population was in the 16th and 17th centuries, when its inhabitants were constantly attacked by pirates. This defence tower was built in the 13th century. It was used to guard against pirate attacks and also as a refuge. It's a unique building, with very few in Europe having the same characteristics. When the attacks ceased, the Canyamel Tower was converted into a farm, and today it houses a museum and a restaurant.SEE THE LOCATION

This lighthouse, together with the Artrutx lighthouse on Menorca, mark out the channel that separates the two islands at its narrowest point. It's on the easternmost part of Mallorca and historians say that this was where King James I the Conqueror awaited the return of the emissaries he sent to Menorca to enforce the Muslim surrender of the island.SEE THE LOCATION
